Jay is a honorably-retired, U.S. Navy veteran living in Remington, Va., pursuing his Master's of Environmental Law and Policy at Vermont Law School and was selected as a Fellow for the 2013-2014 UVA-lead Natural Resource Leadership Institute.
Jay earned his Masters of Natural Resources from Virginia Tech in 2013, his Bachelor of Science in Communications from Excelsior University in 2006, is a 2003 graduate of the DOD’s Advanced Military Photojournalism (MPJ) program at Syracuse University, and a 2005 Eddie Adams Workshop attendee. He is a graduate of the Defense Information School’s Public Affairs Officer Qualification Course (PAOQC) in May 2011. He is the 2013 Virginia Farm Bureau Agriculture Journalist of the Year, a two-time DOD Tho¬mas Jefferson Award winner for Flagship Writer of the Year (2004, 2006) and holds multiple awards from the annual Chief of Naval Information (CHINFO) and Military Photographer of the Year (MILPHOG) for his work with NMCB Five, Seabee Magazine, and All Hands Magazine.
